Dünya'ya çok uzaklardan kardeş geldi
Avrupalı astronomlar, Güneş Sistemi dışındaki en küçük Dünya benzeri kayalık gezegeni gözlemlediklerini bildirdiler.

Avrupa Uzay Ajansından (ESA) yapılan açıklamada, Aralık 2006'da yörüngeye fırlatılan COROT uydu teleskobuyla yapılan keşifte gözlemlenen dış gezegenin (exoplanet) Dünya'nın üçte birinden küçük olduğu ve Güneş benzeri bir yıldızın etrafında döndüğü belirtildi.

Bu mini kayalık gezegenin yüzey sıcaklığının çok yüksek, yaklaşık 1100 santigrat derece olduğunu belirten bilim adamları, gezegenin büyük olasılıkla lav veya su buharı ile kaplı olduğuna işaret ettiler.

COROT projesinde yer alan araştırmacılardan Malcolm Fridlund, Dünya'nın oluşumu ve gelişimini anlama yolunda bu keşfin çok önemli bir adım olduğunu belirterek, "İlk kez bizim Dünyamız gibi kayalık bir gezegeni gözlemledik. Şimdi bu gökcismini bu anlamda değerlendireceğiz ve COROT teleskobuyla daha küçük Dünya benzeri gezegenleri araştırmayı sürdüreceğiz" diye konuştu.

Keşif, Astronomy ve Astrophysics dergisinin bir sonraki sayısında ayrıntılı bir şekilde anlatılacak.

Fransız Uzay Kurumunun başını çektiği COROT projesi, ESA, Avusturya, Belçika, Almanya, İspanya ve Brezilya'nın katkılarıyla yürütülüyor.
